NGO "International Organization of Internally Displaced Persons with disabilities"

The third day of our stay in Latvia and participation in the Riga Academy proved to be interesting and effective, focusing on Articles 7 and 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities – inclusive education. Participants had the opportunity to visit Rīgas 66. vidusskola, a comprehensive school, where they gained insights into the school’s extensive experience and observed the collaborative efforts among teachers, students, and parents. They explored the system of providing educational and rehabilitation services. The children who sang and recited poems for the Ukrainian delegation were particularly impressive.

Our exploration of education continued at LATVIJAS UNIVERSITĀTES ZINĀTŅU CENTRS, the Latvian University, where we were impressed by the modern and inclusive environment created in the institution. Cozy classrooms, a state-of-the-art library, dining areas, recreational spaces, educational accessibility, information dissemination, and communication – all of these elements are indeed present and effectively functioning!

The day concluded at the Sustento office with an exchange of thoughts and impressions, along with discussions on the challenges related to inclusive education in both Ukraine and Latvia.
