The first half of the day focused on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, creating a general understanding of the basic principles set out in this document. In the afternoon, the Director of the Department of Social Services and Disability Policy, Aldis Dudi Ījāš, introduced the Riga Academy participants to the Latvian Disability Policy and spoke about social services that enable people to be self-sufficient.
During the day, many discussions were held on the legislation of Latvia, Europe and Ukraine, and it was agreed that it is important not only to develop relevant norms, but also to create a monitoring mechanism to control their observance and take appropriate measures in case of non-compliance.
Representatives of organisations working on the rights of people with disabilities in different parts of Ukraine are invited to participate.
Many thanks to the Latvian Association of Organisations of People with Disabilities SUSTENTO for organising and warmly welcoming the event in Riga.
