In March and April this year, Ms Tetyana Barantsova, Government’s Commissioner for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, has been working to organize evacuation abroad of people with disabilities and people with limited mobility from various regions of Ukraine.
Thus, due to the harmonized activities of Lviv and Donetsk regional military administrations, the Ministry of Social Policy, the National Social Service, and the Red Cross Society of Ukraine, 221 patients from Bakhmut Psychoneurological Care Institution were evacuated to Italy and Latvia, where they are quite safe now.
On April 5 – 6, the Office of the Government’s Commissioner for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities organized the evacuation of people with disabilities from Lviv region (80 people to Italy, and 141 people to Latvia).
“Such aid for the most vulnerable groups of persons with disabilities was made possible thanks to the invitations and support from Croce Rossa Italiana – Italian Red Cross (Italy) and Ms. Gunta Anca, Chair of SUSTENTО NGO (Latvia). All the issues related to securing escort, necessary nutrition, and medical care for patients, evacuated from the boarding institution, and providing them with the required social and medical living conditions in the places of their temporary residence till the moment of their return to Ukraine have been settled,” commented Ms. Tetiana Barantsova, Government’s Commissioner for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
